Hello Edith,
As you can see from the correspondence below, the proposal for a fee
for academics is now dead. Consequently, we have the spectacle of a
fee being imposed on students for Athletics, but no additional fees
for Academics, even as we are told that next year, the Athletic
budget will rise (due in no small part to this fee) while the
Academic budget will decline.
It seems to me that this is an issue worthy of the Senate's attention.

>>Dear Provost Marlin,
>>
>>While I am sure you have better and more pressing obligations,
>>could I ask you to clarify something you (reportedly) said at the
>>last Dean's meeting? According to the minutes, you said that "The
>>Chancellor has made it clear that no new campus fees will be
>>allowed . . . ." Does this mean that there will be no new campus
>>fees except for the football fee recently, shall we say, approved?
>>Or will that go forward? Also, there were rumors that another fee,
>>one dedicated to academics, was in the works. Assuming that it
>>existed in the first place, does the Chancellor's statement kill that proposal?
>>
>>Thanks in advance,
