> The Girlhood of Shakespeare's Heroines. Mary Cowden Clarke.
And I've read 'em. Some of them anyway. The tempestuous girlhood of Lady
Macbeth stands out in the memory.

Yes, and the trend, or perhaps its precursor, goes back at least as far
as the teen novel Ophelia Speaks and the pop psych book using the
character to talk about teenage girls, Surviving Ophelia. Even further
back are books like The Childhoods of Shakespeare's Heroines (I may have
misremembered the title).

Subject: Cordelia
There's a definte trend out there for films telling the stories of
Shakespeare's characters beyond that which we see in the plays. Here's
news of COREDLIA, starring Imogen Poots:
http://www.screendaily.com/5001238.article
Imogen Poots is to play Cordelia in the untold story of King Lear's
favourite daughter.
The Unanimous Pictures production is being directed by Gordy Hoffman
(Love Liza and A Coat Of Snow) and is based on a script by newcomer
Melissa Brandt. The film is focussed on Cordelia's story, rather than
that of King Lear, after she is banished to France by her father.
Shooting of the independently produced film is planned for autumn. Sean
Bobbit (Hunger, Sense And Sensibility) will serve as director of
photography.
Unanimous Productions, run by Chris Coen, also has a slate including
Godmother based on a script by Ron Bass and Single Shot which will be
directed by David Jacobson.
Hoffman first encountered writer Melissa Brandt through a screenplay
competition which he has run for 10 years. He said "She's a remarkable
writer and she has come up with this incredible conceit. You wonder why
some fringe theatre group in Tokyo hasn't already thought of this."
Unanimous Pictures are currently in discussions with sales agents.
