Venue: MLA London, 4th Floor, 53-56 Great Sutton Street, London EC1V 0DG

The course identifies the key components of the new Key Stage 3 History Programme of Study in terms of both process and knowledge and exemplifies them through a range of teaching activities, leading into discussions of the implications of the Programme of Study for museum education. Each session requires delegates to take part in practical activities.
The day will cover:
· Developing students' sense of enquiry: The process of historical enquiry is at the heart of the Attainment Target. This session demonstrates activities helping students understand this process and discusses how this might be supported in museums.
· Creating 'Big Story' outlines across time: The KS3 programme now defines content by themes. This session demonstrates a series of methods of developing knowledge and understanding of these themes and discusses how these can relate to museum practice.
· From washing-lines to role-play - developing knowledge and understanding in depth: Post-lunch activity with everyone on their feet! Two structured role-plays designed to deepen knowledge and students' enthusiasm for history.
· Relating depth to outlines to enquiry - bringing the day together: History in the round - How can we use students' sense of enquiry as a link between the outline Big Stories and Depth studies?
