IEEE eScience 2009: Conference Track on Digital Repositories and Data Management
The 5th IEEE e-Science conference will be held in Oxford, UK from Dec
9-11. This conference is designed to bring together leading
international and interdisciplinary research communities, developers,
and users of e-Science applications and enabling IT technologies. It
will serve as a forum to present the results of the latest research
and product/tool developments and to highlight related activities from
around the world.
This year, the conference organisers would like to develop some key
themes, one of which is Digital Repositories and Data Management, and
we encourage researchers and others working in these fields to submit
papers to the conference.
There is great potential for synergies between e-science applications
and a cluster of technologies addressing the management of digital
assets. The digital material generated from and used by academic and
other research is to an increasing extent being held in formal data
management systems, variously categorised as digital repositories,
libraries or archives, depending on the sort of data that they contain
and the use to which the data is put. These systems allow us to move
away from the model of a stand-alone repository, where objects are
simply deposited for subsequent access and download. Instead,
researchers are developing more sophisticated models in which these
containers of data are integrated components of a larger e-Science
research infrastructure, incorporating advanced tools and workflows,
and are being used to model complex webs of information and capture
scholarly or scientific processes in their entirety, from raw data
through to final publications. Such systems promise to add significant
value to the data-driven research lifecycle in e-Science.
Important dates

Papers Due: Friday 31st July 2009
Notification of Acceptance: Tuesday 1st September 2009
Camera Ready Papers Due: Friday 18th September 2009
Publication Policies
------------------------
All papers will be peer-reviewed. Accepted papers from both the main
track and the workshops will be published in pre-conference
proceedings published by IEEE. Selected excellent work may be eligible
for additional post-conference publication as extended papers in
selected journals, such as FGCS.
