Dear Mr Revell,
I am emailing to confirm the details of our telephone conversation today.
The issues you raised with me were:
1. You advised me that had read some documentation on professional boundaries published by the GSCC.
2. I advised you that the GSCC does regularly consult with a Service User Group on key policies, you stated that you felt this group does not represent all ‘grass roots’ disabled groups and you have concerns that people from the Neuro-diverse community are not represented in this group. I advised you that I was unable to comment on the content of the group as I was unaware of its membership.
3. You stated that you have grave concerns about the proposed registration of the next groups of Social Care workers as you feel service users and particularly Disabled Peoples Organisation have not been consulted on registration. You also have concerns that registration will seriously damage the ability for these workers to build effective relationships with their clients in order to assist them. You stated that you are concerned that the GSCC is trying to dictate what these workers do in their personal lives and that this should not effect their ability to undertake their social care roles. You wanted me to also note that you feel it is not for the GSCC to determine what relationships between Service Users and Social Care Workers are inappropriate.
4. You asked me to pass on your request to the Chief Executive your wish to be involved in the consultation process for the registration of next groups. You feel that the following organisations need to be involved in these consultations:
Disabled Peoples' Direct Action Network (DAN) and other DPO's across the UK
Autistic Rights Movement (incluiding London-Autistic Rioghts Movement)
Mental Health Survivors Movement (Mind Freedom Internatiomnal/ MADPRIDE, Mental Health Action Group (MHAG) and other 'survivors groups across the UK
Disability Lib
RADAR the disability network
National Centre for Independent Living
Neuro Diversity International (and other NeuroDiversity/Autistic DPO's, like DANDA)
Disability Studies Research Forum (University of Leeds)
5. You confirmed that Lynn Tharrat was no longer working with you and that any arrangement for finalising the multiagency meeting mentioned in my previous email will need to be discussed with you directly.
Please can you review and amend these as appropriate and I will then pass them on the Mike Wardle for consideration.
Yours sincerely
Mrs. Bansri Thomas
