Dear Envirosoc list members,
At my university here in South Korea there is a self-starting team of
undergraduates
who are interested in the broad range of social and environmental issues related
to the
transtition to a post-fossil fuel society... solar and wind energy, slow food,
deglobalization,
you name it. They are callow and not the least bit theoretically sophisticated,
but I appreciate
their budding interest tremendously, because unlike all other students and
colleagues
I've encountered here, they don't buy into the logic (or illogic) of
techno-fixes as solutions
(the prevailing perspective in South Korea).
Anyway, they are preparing a proposal to visit experimental "transition towns"
in the UK
and Ireland and since I am the resident environmental sociologist on campus,
they have
sought out my assistance. They want me to identify a few experts and activists
from the
UK and Ireland who are part of the "transition town" movement, so that they
might interview
these figures, be it in person, over the phone, or by e-mail.
If you can be of any help please contact me off list. Thanks so much.
