Lectureship in Computer Science: artificial intelligence and machine
learning
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
University of Exeter
Starting Salary: £31,513 to £32,458 on Grade F
The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics at the University
of
Exeter invites applications for lectureships in artificial
intelligence and
machine learning.
A lecturer is roughly equivalent to a US assistant professor.
The School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics is an academic and
industrially-linked school with vigorous programmes of research and
teaching in and across the disciplines of Computer Science,
Engineering and
Mathematics.
Computer Science, which had 65% of its overall profile and 83% of its
research outputs rated at 3* or 4* in the 2008 Research Assessment
Exercise, has existing research strengths in Artificial Intelligence and
Machine Learning. The School is seeking to build upon these strengths by
appointing lecturers to undertake research, postgraduate and
undergraduate
teaching. Particular current research interests are in the areas of
statistical machine learning and pattern recognition, including text
mining, information extraction, natural language processing, sparse
representations, kernel methods, signal and image processing,
bioinformatics and Bayesian modelling. This ties in with work on
evolutionary computation for multi-objective optimisation, together with
computer vision, digital and discrete geometry, shape representation and
encoding of digital objects. Work in spatial and temporal knowledge
representation makes special reference to applications in artificial
intelligence, formal ontology, and geographical information science.
