Our online seminar series continues with what we hope will be a really insightful session on the use of audio. Not just in providing feedback but also supporting self assessment and collaborative learning - not just the successes but what worked and what didn't. The seminar is being run by the engineering subject centre but the techniques apply to any discipline, indeed our presenter has worked with educators from many disciplines in building his understanding. Details below:
The use of spoken word audio can hugely improve the effectiveness of giving and receiving feedback for both student and lecturer, in all disciplines, not just in engineering. There are times when this approach will literally revolutionize this most critical academic discourse, but there are traps for the unwary and technology to tame before the benefits can be realized.
Will Stewart from the University of Bradford will introduce the work undertaken by him in partnership with Hertfordshire University and host a debate and answer questions about the practical application of audio. We expect to also hear the experiences of Bob Rotheram, manager for the 'Sounds Good' project, a pilot of audio feedback for student work at Leeds Metropolitan.
