Funny, Andrew, my immediate response was, "What an adverse skill-set for such a person - without resorting to body armor - to make it through grade, middle, high school & college!" On a human level, without sounding self-piteous, that's a big chunk of the challenge. Then to make those skills work with language in a unique, compelling, even beautiful, or stunning 'manner'.

I've just blogged this fiercesome quote from George Eliot: “To be a poet
is
to have a soul so quick to discern, that no shade of quality escapes it, and
so quick to feel, that discernment is but a hand playing with finely ordered
variety on the chords of emotion—a soul in which knowledge passes
instantaneously into feeling, and feeling flashes back as a new organ of
knowledge.”
Challenging?
