At last I have brought in my laptop to upgrade the Ubuntu OS, install
git (1.5.6), and switch from svn to git repository. The
./update-modules stage starts fine, but ends like this.
Submodule 'thirdparty/tclsys/tk'
(ssh://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/web/starlink/git/starlink.git/tk.git) registered for path 'thirdparty/tclsys/tk'
Submodule 'thirdparty/tclsys/tkimg/tkimg'
(ssh://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/web/starlink/git/starlink.git/tkimg.git) registered for path 'thirdparty/tclsys/tkimg/tkimg'
Initialized empty Git repository in /home/mjc/git/starlink/applications/extractor/extract/src/.git/
fatal: '/web/starlink/git/starlink.git/starextract.git': unable to chdir or not a git archive
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
Clone of 'ssh://starlink.jach.hawaii.edu/web/starlink/git/starlink.git/starextract.git'
into submodule path 'applications/extractor/extract/src' failed
Trying again.
% ./update-modules
Updating local repository submodules:
ERROR: missing submodule directory, not updating anything

% git submodule update

What's the recommended fix? Is it just because communications to JAC
failed or Starlink machine at JAC crashed?
Thanks,
Malcolm
