Dear colleagues,
We are opening a post doc position for experimental spectroscopy at LISA
(Laboratoire Interuniversitaire des Systèmes Atmosphériques) in Paris/Créteil.
See below a short description of the position.
We would appreciate greatly your help in distributing this information to
interested, qualified researchers.
Thank you,
Fridolin Kwabia Tchana
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN EXPERIMENTAL SPECTROSCOPY
A post-doctoral fellowship for one year financed through a grant of the
Agence Nationale pour la Recherche (ANR) is open in the “SPECtroscopie et
Atmosphères” (SPECAt) group of LISA (http://www.lisa.univ-paris12.fr/) in
Paris/Créteil, in collaboration with the AILES Beamline at the French
Synchrotron SOLEIL in Saclay, to start September 1st 2009. The candidate
should be available to extend the post-doctoral for a second year, financed by
SOLEIL.
The SPECAt group at LISA has been involved for many years in the analysis of
spectra for the study of planetary atmospheres and participates in the
construction of international spectroscopic databases (HITRAN, GEISA,
MIPAS,...). With experimental laboratory spectroscopy as the basis of these
studies, the SPECAt group is equipped with a high-resolution Fourier transform
interferometer (Bruker IFS 125 HR) that is able to cover a wide spectral range,
ranging from the visible to the far-infrared regions.
We propose to use this instrument to study molecular species of atmospheric
interest. For this purpose, the candidate has to develop an absorption cell
adapted to the study of such molecules. An important species is chlorine
nitrate (ClONO2): indeed, atmospheric observations of this reservoir molecule
are essential to understand quantitatively the role of chlorine in the catalytic
destruction of ozone. However, despite its great importance, little
spectroscopic data exist for this compound that is rather difficult to
synthesize in the laboratory. The experiments will focus on the lowest
vibrational band around 123 cm-1 (80 mm), which is important for the analysis
of “hot” bands in all the spectra regions in the infrared that are used for
atmospheric sounding of ClONO2.
The candidates should have a PhD in experimental physics or chemistry and
experience in high-resolution infrared spectroscopy. A strong background in
experimental gas-phase molecular spectroscopy, in particular high-resolution
Fourier transform spectroscopy, and optical instrumentation is highly desirable.
Or, alternatively, an experience in chemical synthesis of inorganic molecules
(especially halogenated species) would be appreciated.
To apply, candidates should send, before July 15th, 2009, a letter of
motivation, a CV together with the list of publications, and 2 lettres of
recommendation, to:
