Applicants should possess a PhD in Communication Studies.
Teaching experience in communication studies. Fieldwork experience.
Experience with the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate
Special Expertise/Areas of Concentration:
Demonstrated competence within theoretical and applied communication
studies with a principal research focus on one or more communication
1) Group and Organizational Communication AND
2) Communication Theory OR Communication Research Methods.
Research and teaching interests in the area(s) of Group and
Organizational Communication Theory and Communication Theory and
Research Methods are preferred. Although the area of specialization is
open within core theoretical and applied communication studies,
preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching
interests complement the Department's existing strengths.
The appointee will be required to effectively teach a total of five
Communication Studies courses per year (both undergraduate and
postgraduate) in any of the following areas: Bachelor of Arts (BA in
Communication Studies), Masters (MA in Communication Studies and MPhil
in Communication Studies) and PhD levels; supervise postgraduate
research in Communication Studies, and design and implement research
programmes in Communication Studies.
Broad interest in group and organizational communication theory,
research and applications, a strong focus on research, a solid
commitment to teaching excellence, the scholarship of teaching and
learning, and academic advising. Ability to develop and maintain
effective interpersonal relationships, and to work in a team. Positive
disposition and demonstrable competencies in the deployment of
Information and Communication Technology in teaching for the delivery
of face-to-face, distance and web-based instruction, and a keen
interest in course development and design.
