Yes,
we could deliver an ePE attribute and already have a mechanism in place for libraries to control this, it's used for the ePE attributes for e.g. film and sound online (automatic processes make the initial assignment, but library staff can tweak it).
We use a simple character string attribute in edirectory and then use a scriptlet to interpret that, if particular letters are there (treated like a "set") it puts the appropriate ePE value in.
