I doubt I was the only person to listen to someone who seemed to be
called Dr Simon Tanner appearing a short while ago on BBC Radio 4, and I
doubt I was the only person to think he sounded like a drivelling idiot.
The combination of waffle and jargon, along with the attempts to suggest
that things which had happened - and the interviewer had asked him
about - had not, and in general a complete absence of any content in
answers to questions about what the HPA would do (we hold daily meetings
is not what I or most of us mean by doing things) causes me to doubt
that there is an underlying clear thought, plan or capacity to respond
effectively to events.
Perhaps I am uncharitable?
Perhaps the underlying thought and work is sound, despite his department
feeling he is the best person to field to the nation?
Does anyone know this chap?
And his salary?
