I am writing to invite you to the launch event for Manchester's new Centre for Development Informatics, which studies the role of ICTs in developing countries (http://www.manchester.ac.uk/cdi).
The event will be held on Thursday 14 May from 2pm onwards, in University Place, room 6.207. (For map and travel details: http://www.manchester.ac.uk/visitors/travel/).
We will begin with an opening presentation by Prof. Subhash Bhatnagar from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He will be talking about the past, present and future of information systems in developing countries. Prof. Bhatnagar has significant experience in various issues including e-government, e-commerce and ICT policy.
From about 3.30 pm, we will have a set of "speed research" presentations from researchers in the Centre, highlighting a variety of different issues on ICTs and developing countries, including mobile telephony, blogging, web-based relations, IT sector development, e-governance and outsourcing, and drawing from experiences in regions including Central America, Africa, Middle East and Asia.
The event is free and open to all, but if you will be attending, I would be grateful for an email reply, just to help us know about numbers.
If you have any questions about the launch event or the Centre, do please ask.
With good wishes
Richard Heeks
