Details
Applications are invited for the post of Non-Clinical Senior Lecturer in
Bioinformatics to join the NIHR Specialist Biomedical Research Centre for
Mental Health (BRC-MH). The BRC-MH, funded by the National Institute for
Health Research, undertakes translational research across 7 Disorder themes
and 3 Cross-cutting themes. The BRC-MH recently secured a £3m
infrastructure grant from Trustees of the South London and Maudsley NHS
Foundation Trust and the Guys and St Thomas’ Trust (GSTT) Charity for
a ‘Nucleus’ of IT developments, bioinformatics and biostatistics to support a
variety of strategically important BRC-MH research initiatives. The successful
candidate will be expected to lead bioinformatics research of an international
standard complementary to the overall research strategy of the BRC-MH. This
strategy includes the use of expression profiling, genomics, proteomics and
other approaches to identify biomarkers of progression, disease and treatment
response and in further understanding mental illness. The successful candidate
will have a relevant PhD and a proven track record of bioinformatics research.
S/he will conduct, supervise and otherwise contribute to analyses of genetics,
genomics, transcriptomics and proteomic data alongside data from
neuroimaging, laboratory and clinical areas for themes from across the BRC-
MH. S/He will therefore need to be familiar with relevant database languages
and statistical programmes; including MYSQL, PERL and R.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Simon Lovestone (Tel: +(0)
207848-0239/0550; Email: [log in to unmask]). Where applicants are
short listed for interview, references will normally be taken up prior to
interview. Applicants who do not wish any referees to be so contacted should
make this explicitly clear on their application. We are unfortunately unable to
reply to those applicants who have not been short listed and invited for
interview. However, we would like to thank all candidates for their applications
and for their interest in working for the BRC-MH at the South London and
Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College
London.
