Three biostatistics positions are available within the Biostatistics Unit of
the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at Monash University,
Melbourne, Australia.

The Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (DEPM) provides a
strong research capability in areas of particular relevance to clinical
epidemiology, emergency care research, clinical therapeutics, infectious and
chronic diseases. Further detail is available at:
   http://www.med.monash.edu.au/epidemiology/.

The Biostatistics Unit within DEPM undertakes a range of research
methodological projects, collaborative epidemiological projects, and
teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate health and biostatistics degrees
as well as running a Biostatistics Consulting Service.

All three positions are located at the Alfred Hospital campus of Monash
University.

POSITION 1: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biostatistics

This National Health and Medical Research Council-funded position is to work
on methodology for missing data in the development and application of risk
prediction tools. The work will involve simulation studies to compare
competing methodological strategies and their application to mortality risk
prediction in end stage renal disease. This position will suit an
enthusiastic and committed person with a postgraduate degree in
biostatistics (preferably PhD). Ideally you will have experience runnning
simulation studies in Stata or similar statistical software, and be familiar
with missing data methodology and risk prediction tool development and
validation methods.
The position is offered for 1 year in the first instance within a 3-year
grant that offers a strong possibility for extension. Salary: $69,853 -

POSITION 2: Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Biostatistics, or PhD scholarship

This National Health and Medical Research Council-funded position is to work
on methodology for the design and analysis of short interrupted time series
in health services research. Duties will involve investigation of
bootstrap, Bayesian and robust estimation methods applied to short ITS
studies, design principles, and software development. This position will
suit either a recent statistics or biostatistics Doctoral graduate, or a
Bachelors/Masters graduate looking to undertake PhD studies. For the latter
a doctoral scholarship is available. An ideal background would include a
sound methodological background, software programming experience and an

Interested in a career in biostatistics/epidemiology with a focus on
workplace and environmental health studies? The Biostatistics Unit,
together with the Monash Centre for Occupational & Environmental Health
(MonCOEH) is offering a position at either Research Fellow or Senior
Research Fellow level. MonCOEH is a national leader in workplace and
environmental health and is expanding its research program through several
new NHMRC and other research grants. MonCOEH has interests in occupational
cohort studies and exposure assessment as well as veteran health, disease
surveillance, and mobile phone health research. Health outcomes of major
interest are cancer, respiratory disease, musculoskeletal disorders and
psychological outcomes.

This position involves analysis of large occupational cohort studies,
development or application of novel methodology for modelling and/or
exposure assessment, providing advice on design and analysis for MonCOEH
staff members, and writing of scientific papers. The position would suit a
PhD graduate in Statistics or Biostatistics with experience in the analysis
of large cohort studies, preferably in the occupational health area. More
