Thank you to those who responded. It appears that there are a few
possible solutions:
Sarstedt Monovette 10ml labelled tubes - cat. no. 10.152.001
Easy enough for patients to use - they draw up the urine into the tube
via an attached syringe mechanism. When the tube is full, the syringe
fitting is snapped off and tube sent to the lab.
We did a study with Greiner urine system some while ago which was quite
successful. Logistics of getting GPs to use it are more difficult! Two
options - one where patient transfers urine into vacuette and another
where a straw is used to transfer urine from any container into
vacuette.

We are currently looking at a system sold by Becton Dickenson, which is
a wide mouth collection pot, with a lid which contains a vaccutainer
"piercing device. The plan is that the patient uses the pot at home and
is also given a vaccutainer tube. They write their details on the
vaccutainer tube, then press the vaccutainer onto the piercing needle.
The vaccutainer fills will urine and the patient sends the tube to us
and we can centrifuge and analyse direct from the primary. Sound good
but have yet to try it with a real patient. Pots are about 25p . You
can see the pot at the link below. They also do a straw which you can
use any collection container with.
