Dear Colleagues:
We are writing this letter to bring to the attention of the Physical Sciences community the
possibility of NIH grant review by the Macromolecular Structure and Function E study
section (MSFE). This relatively recently chartered study section has focus in the following
areas of enzymology:
• Mechanistic enzymology involving protein and nucleic acid catalysts.
• Protein-ligand interactions and dynamics.
• Inhibitors of enzymes and their mechanisms, drug chemistry and metabolizing
enzymes, biochemical mechanism based drug development.
• Macromolecular studies of metabolic pathways and networks.
• Computational and theoretical studies of biochemical reactions, application of
quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics to studies of enzyme mechanisms, genomic
enzymology, sequence-structure analysis to uncover mechanistic strategies of
superfamilies.
The goal of the majority of the applications that MSFE reviews is to understand the
chemistry of biological systems using physical principles and research techniques. Thus,
the biologically oriented research presented in the Journal of Physical Chemistry would
find appropriate expertise for review on MSFE. Questions regarding individual applications
may be asked of the Scientific Review Officer, Dr. Nitsa Rosenzweig 301-435-1747,

Yours truly,
Dr. Nitsa Rosenzweig, SRO
Dr. Steven D. Schwartz, Chair MSFE
