Dear Nick
I also have only just read this and hope it's not too late. On November 11th
we (University of Oxford) launched The First World War Poetry Digital
Archive (http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ww1lit) which contains primary source
material relating to the major British poets of the First World War and
contextual multimedia items (audio, film, photographs) from the Imperial War
Museum.
However, the part you may be most interested in is a parallel initiative we
ran called The Great War Archive, where we invited members of the general
public to digitise any items they held originating from the War and submit
them via a special website, or alternatively bring their items along to one
of our submission days held at local libraries and museums where we would
digitise it for them. In the short space of 4 months we collected and made
available over 6500 items, previously hidden away in peoples attics and
bottom drawers. Items include letters, diaries, memoirs, photographs,
memorabilia and much more.
The collection can be seen here: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ww1lit/gwa
And read about here: http://www.oucs.ox.ac.uk/ww1lit/gwa/about
All items are freely accessible to all, and can be downloaded and used for
educational use.
The project was funded by Phase 2 of the JISC Digitisation Programme.
Hope this is of interest,
Best wishes,
Kate
