Dear Christian,
there have already been some reports about issues with MATLAB 2006a/b
and SPM8b. Unfortunately, it does not seem to be trivial to pin down the
exact cause of these crashes. They seem to happen in MATLAB core
libraries that deal with memory management and function call handling.
Older (R14SP3) and newer (2007a onwards) MATLAB versions seem to work
fine.
As you said, the screenshot does not capture the full log. MATLAB (at
least on UNIX) creates matlab_crash_dump files in such cases somewhere.
Although it is not guaranteed to be helpful, it would be worth a try to
find the one created at the time of the crash on your computer and send
it to me off-list.
