Dear SPMers,
I've used SPM on a few different intel quad cores running XP x64, and for
each of them the CPU usage when running statistics hovers around ~90%
for all of the cores. When I run similar analyses on the same computer
model (so same hardware), not all of the cores are utilized and the analyses
take much longer. Strangely enough, it's not that only one core is used but
that only one core is used at a time (eg core1 will be at 90% then drop to
5% as core2 rises to 90%). Also, the GNOME system monitor shows Matlab
hovering around 25% CPU usage, which would be one core. I've attached a
screenshot of the system monitor while doing such a task.
I've enabled multithreading in Matlab just as I did under windows. Under
Preferences / General / Multithreading I set the # of threads to use as
"automatic (recommended). Use as many threads as cores: 4". I'm running
this on Ubuntu 8.04. It's not a 64-bit OS like the Windows systems
mentioned above, but it doesn't look like memory is the bottleneck, so I
don't think that's the issue. Any help towards resolving this issue would
be much appreciated.
