The Wellcome Trust has produced a Guide to Working with the Media for
our scientists, which we're in the process of putting online. If anyone
would like me to email them a copy in the mean time, please let me know.

Also, Stempra has produced a parallel guide aimed at press officers,
which may be of interest - www.stempra.org.uk/guidelines.htm.

I also set up a social network on the Ning platform.

The Research and Media Network is for journalists, scientists, science
communicators, policy analysts, students, etc. to share information and
discuss things.

The network has 1,200 members in more than 100 countries.

It also has a social bookmark function (under the map) with plenty of
links to info on science communication.

See: http://researchandmedia.ning.com

Best wishes

Subject: Re: [PSCI-COM] Advice to scientists who want to work with the
media

I recently set up a social networking site called Connecting Science
which aims to bring together scientists who are interested in working
with the media and performing other kinds of outreach work. The idea is
to provide them with a place to meet each other, exchange ideas/ info on
outreach/media resources, debate, ask questions etc.

And following on from the earlier threads about how to get more
postgrads involved in outreach, another aim of the site is to give
scientists a bit of moral support in the face of any institutional
disapproval of their activities. It's free (and ad-free) to join at:
www.connectingscience.org
Please feel free to spread the word!

I also run a company that provides media and science communication
training for researchers: www.sciconnect.co.uk

All the best

Claire
