Hi everybody,
I thought some of you might be interested in responding to this call from the RLG Partners Social Metadata Working Group. I am sending this along on behalf of Cheryl Gowing. While the group undertaking this investigation is predominantly from the library community, there are also strong pockets of archives and museums represented, and it'd be good to get a response across the sectors. Please get in touch with Cheryl directly if you'd like to be contacted.
Cheers,
Günter

Greetings:
RLG Programs has formed a RLG Partners Social Metadata Working Group to "analyze issues that would need to be resolved to take full advantage of the array of potential user contributions by communicating and sharing them on the network level." User contributions include annotations of text, commentaries, tags, reviews, links to related sources, images, etc. You can read the Working Group's charge on the RLG Programs website at: http://www.oclc.org/programs/ourwork/renovating/changingmetadata/aggregating.htm#socmetgroup
As an initial step in the process, we want to identify institutions currently incorporating social networking functions in public interfaces [e.g. catalogs/discovery tools/web sites that use tagging, reviews, annotations, lists, etc. ; image repositories [Flickr, etc.] that allow tagging and/or comments, etc.]. We plan to contact these institutions at a later date with follow-up questions on issues concerning social metadata.
Please email me directly if you, or someone else at your institution, manage a site/service generating social metadata and would be willing to be contacted for further questions regarding the site.
Regards, cheryl
