Dear Fred,
With regard to your specific queries below, DRIVER currently
concentrates on repositories that contain research text material as we
focus on access to and promotion of research outputs, in line with
European Commission and funding objectives to promoting research as an
economic amplifier. Other types of repositories are obviously of
interest to individual partners and researchers, but not the funded
focus of DRIVER.
With regard to your query about DRIVER's relation to OAIster, DRIVER is
an infrastructure, not a service and in that sense, gives support to
service construction through service interaction by offering its content
and services to whoever wants to use them in order to build other
services (e.g. Recolecta and Belgium portal). The DRIVER search service
is one example of what is possible through the use of the
infrastructure. DRIVER is a complement to OAIster, looking at the
development of services for communities of researchers, rather than pure
search that is offered by OAIster. DRIVER is also working in other
background areas, facilitating the development of repositories and the
repository network, as well as the standardisation of aspects of
repositories, which will benefit search services such as OAIster and
others.
More information is available on the DRIVER website and by contacting
the DRIVER Helpdesk at www.driver-community.eu/helpdesk
Kind regards,
Sophia Jones

context"
Two things come immediately to mind on quick inspection of this service:
1. DRIVER doesn't search "digital repositories" in general, but only
those with scholarly works - learning object repositories (hobbyhorse
mounted ;)), indeed 'digital asset' repositories as a whole, don't get a
mention.
2. Is it a complement or competition for OAIster?
