To lighten the load from all this heavy stuff on repositories and
preservation, here's a wee story. We are trialling twitter for
internal communications purposes (my assessment: not really working
but interesting nevertheless). Somewhat reluctantly, I got persuaded
to have a go, open a twitter account, and install Tweetdeck.
Parenthetically, I've found out quite a lot of interesting stuff
since I started, so even if we abandon twitter for the internal comms
purposes, I may carry on.
One interesting thing you can easily do is set up a twitter search
that it runs every few minutes, returning results in a column on
Tweetdeck (sorry to labour this, but I have no idea how many of you
are twitterati). I have one for "Repository OR Repositories". I just
did a quick count; with around 160 tweets found in the past 2 days
containing one of those words, only 14 had anything to do with the
sort of repositories this list is interested in!
Most of the rest appear to be to do with SVN and git etc version
control repositories. Quite a lot appear to be the simple dictionary
meaning of places to store something.
I hadn't quite realised how much we are overloading someone else's
vocabulary with the R-word!
(OTOH (digital OR data) AND (curation OR preservation) has only
produced a half dozen or so tweets today!)
