I've discussed with Tim (indirectly, via email!). The problem with
changing the background color is if you have different fundamental regions
for different spectra it could become a mess. Perhaps different contour
colors, although I would say that if you have N spectra in a window that
could also get confusing. Perhaps instead the contours should be dashed
(like the peaks are)?? (I haven't checked into that but hopefully
possible without too much grief.)
