Dear Colleague,
The CASS programme has currently spaces available on two of its short
courses:
'Handling Nonresponse in Sample Surveys' and 'Questionnaire Design'.
Further information below:
Handling Nonresponse in Sample Surveys
8-10 June 2009, at the University of Southampton, UK, with Prof Jelke
Bethlehem, Fannie Cobben, Dr Gabriele Durrant and Prof John Micklewright.
The course addresses the problem of unit-nonresponse in sample surveys
which occurs when individuals fail to participate in a survey, for example
because of refusal or non-contact. The course introduces the main ideas and
approaches to analyse and to address the problem, either by reducing
nonresponse at the data collection stage or by using statistical methods for
compensating for the effects of nonresponse at the data analysis stage with a
particular emphasis on weighting methods. (The course will not focus on item
non-response which occurs when sample members take part in the sample but
fail to answer some of the survey questions.)

Questionnaire Design
6-7 May 2009
Dr Pam Campanelli
Learn how to write effective survey questions and combine them into a
meaningful questionnaire. This course combines suggestions from the research
literature on questionnaire design with a very practical approach. It covers
the special issues faced in writing factual, non-factual and sensitive
questions, for both interview and self-completion modes, and also includes an
introduction to various methods for testing survey questionnaires.
