This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a strong background in statistics, mathematics, physics, computer science or a related quantitative discipline. The internationally recognised group under Dr Mark Little has been working on radiation risk for the last 20 years, the last 8 of these at Imperial College.
The post is full time for a fixed-term for 15 months and will be based at the St Mary’s campus, Paddington, as part of the Euratom NOTE Consortium and will involve the researcher devising and fitting statistical and mathematical models of the bystander effect to data generated from a novel quasi-in vivo biological system. The models will be developed in conjunction with experimental partners at Queens University (Belfast) and STUK (Helsinki) who will be developing the novel 3D imaging system needed as part of the work. The work will involve extensive collaboration with scientists in these institutes and in various other EU countries. The project will require that code be written in a high level language (FORTRAN or C/C++). The researcher is expected to be self-motivated, and capable of working with minimal direction.
The ideal candidate will have a doctorate in Statistics or related quantitative subject. They will also have experience in research and teaching, use of high level language (FORTRAN/C/C++) and Microsoft Office. The candidate should have an interest in public health research preferably demonstrated by relevant work experience in a university, public service or charity funded environment.
