Dear Psci-Com,
I am forwarding to the group an interesting comment on the Dana Centre that Lord Jenkin has sent.
Best wishes to all,
Colin Blakemore
Message from Lord Jenkin:
Colin:
I have read all this with much interest, and am grateful to you for including me in the distribution list. What I recollect about the origins of what became "The Dana Centre "etc is that there was a suggestion that it should be named "The Science and Society Centre" in recognition of the thrust of the House of Lords Select Committee Report from which you quote. (I remember being mildly disappointed when this did not happen!)
What I can say with some confidence is that while finding a home for the BA (now the BSA) was envisaged as one of the benefits of the new centre, the central purpose was to be a place that could become a focus for the public engagement with science.
I have not copied this to all your distribution list - I do not know some of them, and I am not familiar with all the acronyms! - but please feel free either to pass on my note or to keep it to yourself.
