2009 - Year of Change
EIA Annual Conference, 30-31 March, London
The keynote speech at our 2009 conference will be given by Dr Michelle Cini, Senior Lecturer in Politics and Jean Monnet Lecturer in EC Studies at the University of Bristol. Michelle will reflect on the key developments of the past five years and look forward to issues facing the EU in the next five, including the forthcoming changes to Parliament and Council and possible developments with the Treaty of Lisbon and enlargement of the Union.
Caroline Boyle, Head of Outreach at the European Parliament in London will speak about the EP elections, including the information sources available.
Workshops will focus on developments with EUR-Lex, the Court of Justice, national implementation of EU legislation, and how to improve Europa.
Following a review of EU information 2008/2009 by EIA President Ian Thomson, we’ll hear news of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, a presentation on the work of DG Interpretation, and get an update on progress with making a single home for the Commission and Parliament in London.
We’ll also be catching up on developments in the official networks, with presentations on Europe Direct, the Enterprise Europe Network, and European Documentation Centres.
Our annual Awards for EU Information Sources will be presented at the conference dinner, which will of course give delegates even more opportunity to make and renew friendships and to discuss EU information matters …
Located near to Euston Station, the Methodist International Centre is easy to access and has been popular with delegates in the past - see www.micentre.com
We’ve organised a training course on the day after the conference. Beyond the Big Three: lesser known routes to EU law making is a new course, which will show how the Commission, Council and Parliament really operate, and shed light on the roles of the Court of Justice, agencies and lobbyists.
EIA Members £250 / €275 ; others: £350 / €390.
Price includes conference entry and refreshments, but not accommodation or evening meals; training day cost: £175 / €195 ; £245 / € 270.00.
