The Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit studies the genetic and
environmental determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic
disorders. The MRC Epidemiology Unit is based within the new Institute of
Metabolic Science (IMS) building in Cambridge. Due to the expansion of the
Unit we are seeking to recruit the following:
MRC Career Development Fellow (Post-doctoral) positions

The MRC Epidemiology Unit invites applications for non-clinical or clinical
Career Development Fellow positions (three year postdoctoral training and
development positions) in a wide portfolio of research programmes related to
the causation and prevention of diabetes, obesity and related metabolic
disorders:
• Diabetes aetiology: genetic and environmental determinants and their
interaction (lead: Prof Nick Wareham)
• Nutritional epidemiology (lead: Dr Nita Forouhi)
• Genetic and environmental determinants of infancy and childhood growth
(lead: Dr Ken Ong)
• Physical activity epidemiology (lead: Dr Ulf Ekelund)
• Prevention, screening and treatment of type 2 diabetes (lead: Dr Simon
Griffin).
Successful applicants will have completed doctoral studies in a relevant
discipline and have a background in epidemiology or public health. These
posts provide opportunities to develop new research ideas and projects, to
work on existing data collected in several population based observational
studies and trials, and to establish collaborative links with colleagues in
the MRC and elsewhere.
