NEWS ARTICLE
ITU and European Commission mark Safer Internet Day - Focus on protecting children online (10 February 2009)Children are among the most active - and most vulnerable - participants online. According to recent surveys, over 60 per cent of children and teenagers talk in chat rooms on a daily basis. Three in four children online are willing to share personal information about themselves and their family in exchange for goods and services. One in five children will be targeted by a predator or paedophile each year. Protecting children in cyberspace is, therefore, clearly our duty.

FACTSHEET
Empowering and protecting children online In recent years, the EU has coordinated and supported efforts to make the internet a safer place, especially for children. These efforts are ongoing and in the next five years, EUR 55 million will be used to fight illegal content and harmful behaviours on the Web that could be labelled as racism, bullying or grooming.
FACTSHEET
Preparatory Action "MEDIA International"
Boosting cooperation for the European audiovisual industry on a global scale The preparatory action "MEDIA International" aims to explore ways of reinforcing cooperation between EU and non-European professionals from the audiovisual industry on a basis of mutual benefit. With a budget of EUR 2 million approved by the European Parliament in December 2007 for actions in 2008, MEDIA International is planned to operate for up to three years with a view to paving the way for a broader EU support programme for global cooperation in the audiovisual industry sector. It runs in parallel to the existing MEDIA 2007 programme which supports the EU film industry. A new call for proposals is opening in February 2009.
REPORTS AND STUDIES
eHealth in Action - Good Practice in European Countries
An important lesson to be drawn from the eHealth solutions presented in this report is that eHealth has not only proven its usefulness but also its sustainability. Some of the solutions already benefit from close to ten years of experience. Several of them have initially been funded as pilots by various support programmes of the European Commission.
