Hi Neil
The Centre for Textile Conservation, Research, Education & Conservation
based at Southampton University is the key place for advice on textiles
in the UK. But you'd better ask them quickly!
The Centre is being closed down in October this year. The vast majority
of UK textile collections use TCC for advice, such as us with our banner
collections, and there is a real risk of the heritage sector losing
advice in this area, an area that the UK has led on for many years.
A recent report was issued by the think tank DEMOS on the issue of
textile conservation 'It's a Material World - caring for the public
realm'
