Dear all,
I have been asked by our Human Resources department if they can delete
some data. We have a large database of HR and Payroll information and it
includes audit trail data showing who has accessed the records and what
changes, if any, they have made. This audit trail data is taking up a large
amount of space and the department is sure they have no need of it beyond
12 months, and want to delete it.
A quick survey of discussions on this list suggests that audit trail data is
generally an important record and may even be retained when the original
record is destroyed. On the other hand, this is a database - not original
personnel files - and the discussions I have seen appear to relate to
documents captured within an EDRM system.
One option would be to export the data on an annual basis and archive it in a
way that would take up less space. But would this be either useful or
necessary? Any ideas?
