Indeed, and I am so sorry that Terrible Work's out of action, as well for
your serious illness, Tim. I enjoyed your T W's approach and giggled often
at your forthright responses to pamphlets.
You point out serious obstacles to widely reviewing poetry pamphlets. I
rather think that the UK has fewer probs than the USA, p'raps because of the
size of our countries, but also because of the still-tradition of reverence
for poets/poetry and WORDS that USAmericans have slightly but noticeably
moved away from. I think the deficiency's surmountable----and that we've
already begun involving, creative responses which ARE 'reviews'. Poetry
lists, for example, continuously present fascinating, 'personalised' looks
at what has previously been thought an impossible jumble of poems and poets.
Never has there been a more promising time for tangling with new works.
We're making the term 'review' itself inadequate to describe what's going
on.
Helena Nelson's SPHINX [UK] does great things, and I believe she, too, is a
one-person 'show' with volunteer reviewers. I'm sure you know about SPHINX
as well as Helena's noteworthy Happenstance Press, but for others new to
them, here's a link to SPHINX:
