Dear List
I'm finding of late that a number of migrant workers, mainly from Eastern
Europe, are taking annual leave and then posting back to their employer a sick
note to cover further absence, often up to 3 weeks or more beyond the initial
period of leave.
One company whom I work with have been accepting these notifications for
CSP purposes, based upon the fact that they are stamped by a medical
practitioner...or so they thought, until I pointed out that the stamp was in
fact the authentication of the translator!
Some of the 'reasons for absence' given do not often marry up with the
explanations given on return to work or symptoms they state they have had.
One in particular related to a near death cardiac experience, and when seen,
the chap looked amazingly well and was on no medical management or follow
up!
I don't wish to sound diparaging of the employeees, their doctors or the HR
professionals, however, it does concern me at times. I appreciate it is
probably more of an HR/management issue, but OH comes in to play if the
reasons given have obvious implications for rehab and return to work.
I'm interested to hear of anyone elses experience of this or any thoughts on
how we deal with it?
It may be beneficial to know that very few register with local GPs either.
Thanks,
Mary
