SLA EUROPE: CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR
INFORMATION PROFESSIONAL AWARD 2009

SLA Europe invites applications for the SLA Europe Information Professional
Award 2009 (SLA Europe IP 2009).

The Award, now in its 16th year, recognises outstanding achievement in the
information profession. Nominees must demonstrate (in writing) the
contribution they have made to the profession: by developing an innovative
concept or a new service, or by authoring a major paper which has led to a
better appreciation of the role of information among users of their service
or a wider audience.

The winner of SLA Europe IP receives an expenses-paid trip to the next SLA
Conference, which will be held in Washington, DC, 14-17 June, 2009. 2009 is
SLA's Centennial year so the Conference promises to be extra special.

In return, the Award winner will represent SLA Europe for the year that they
are in office; this involves attending key meetings and giving a number of
presentations, as well as writing for the SLA Europe Newsletter.

Past winners of the Award include Janet Hopkins (Drueker, Germany),
Marie-Madeleine Salmon, (Publicis, France), Peter Clarke (Mercer Oliver
Wyman, UK), Margareta Nelke (Tetra Pak, Sweden) and Annabel Colley (BBC,
UK). Our current Award holder is Dennie Heye, Information Scientist at Shell
International Exploration and Production Information Management Services,
Amsterdam.  Dennie commented "The Award meant a lot to me.  I  shared the
glory with my team and management, in thanks for the stimulating working
environment and their support over the years. In Shell the Award has been
used to showcase the value of the in-house information services, now also
recognized by a third party. Personally for me, the biggest prize was
meeting so many great colleagues from all over the world at the Conference
in Seattle and getting new ideas.  Nothing is as powerful as an innovative
idea."

Nominees should be an established member of the information profession,
living and working in Europe; they do not have to be a member of SLA Europe.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from the SLA Europe website at
http://www.sla-europe.org. A magnum of champagne will be given to the person
who nominates the winner (if not self-nominated).   Please contact the

SLA Europe gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Dow Jones, which
continues to recognise the relevance of the Award by sponsoring it for a
10th year.  Entries will be judged by representatives of the Board of SLA
Europe and Dow Jones.  The deadline for applications is 28th February 2009.
