Introduction and Overall Objective of the Book
This collection of cases will analyze and evaluate how organizations and
institutions of learning in the developing and developed world are adapting to
technology for providing educational opportunities with a transnational
perspective. The book will focus on how organizations have adapted to the
advancement in information and communication technology in order to
successfully face the demands posed by Social, Technological, Economical and
Political (STEP) factors. The principal objective of this book will be to present
a comprehensive volume of institutional cases considering the STEP
dimensions of various countries. The cases will identify the issues and
challenges which have been instrumental in bringing about changes in
organizations related to the STEP factors by providing opportunities for
learning, growth and development through a blend of traditional and
technological methods. The cases in the book are expected to highlight the
influences that these organizations and institutions have on the adaptation
and learning processes. Through this book, the reader will get a composite and
comparative perspective of how technological adaptability has affected the
environment in different countries and vice-versa. Additionally, this analytical
approach will enable the readers to understand the effectiveness of
technology in addressing the core issues of the respective regions.
Accordingly this book will provide an international platform to policy makers,
educators and trainers, educational administrators and researchers through
which they can contribute and share their experiences, ideas, attitudes and
perspectives on how institutions in their respective countries are addressing
the core issues of social accessibility, technological adaptability, economic
viability, and political agreeability towards providing education and
development opportunities.
Target Audience
For policy makers, planners, distance educators, trainers, teachers and
researchers in education, learning and development, the book will provide a
comparative and comprehensive analysis of Open and Distance Learning (ODL)
environments on various issues across the world and also best practices and
experiences from a varied range of countries. It will be a good resource book
for researchers in ODL, higher education and management and development of
education. This book will also benefit educational technologists as one of the
main focuses of the book will be technological adaptability. Social science
researchers and social workers will also find this volume relevant due to its
analysis and evaluation of educational and technological development
environments towards enhancing social accessibility.

Authors are encouraged to send cases on their institutional experiences of
learning, training and development in the transnational perspective.
Submission Procedure
Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 15,
2009, a 2-3 page case proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of
his or her proposed case. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by
March 31, 2009 about the status of their proposals and sent case guidelines.
Full cases are expected to be submitted by May 31, 2009. All submitted cases
will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be
requested to serve as reviewers for this project.
Publisher
This book is scheduled to be published by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group
Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group
Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” and “IGI Publishing”
