Social Science and Innovation
AIM Conference, 11th February 2009
Royal Society of Arts, London
Convened by Lead AIM Innovation Fellow Professor Michelle Lowe, this event
is aimed at all those on the interface between innovation and social studies, in
particular members of the policy and practice community as well as academics
in management and the social sciences
The main objective of the conference is to develop further the implications of
recent research by generating dialogue between the large amount of research
on innovation (broadly defined) being carried out across the social sciences,
and that taking place in management research (specifically under the auspices
of AIM). Speakers at the conference will address these issues from a variety
of perspectives and their presentations will serve as a springboard for a panel
discussion on the overall impact on policy and practice as well as more
specifically the interface between social science and management research
and the potential for cross fertilisation of ideas on the theme of innovation.
There will be ample opportunity for networking both before and after the
event.
Speakers: The event will be chaired by Professor Andy Neely, Deputy Director
of AIM
Professor Meric Gertler, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Science at the
University of Toronto and Director of major $7million SSHRC research
programme awards (2001-2010) on ‘Innovation and Regional Systems’
and ‘Innovation and Creativity in City Regions’
Professor Nigel Thrift, Vice Chancellor, University of Warwick
Dr Michael Kitson, Director of the Programme on Regional Innovation at the
