Fresh out of the secondary geography classroom I am now leading the schools
programme at ActionAid. At the first seminar of the ESRC engaging geography
series (http://engaginggeography.wordpress.com) one theme that came up a
number of times was the need to create opportunities for academic
geographers to communicate and work with school teachers.
ActionAid works on developing partnerships between people in rich and poor
countries who are dedicated to ending poverty and injustice. Within my role
in the schools team I am keen to explore ways of bringing activist academics
and teachers together to explore ways of sharing knowledge, understanding,
ideas and actions.
In the first instance we are planning a one day free event for teachers on
climate change (causes, effects, adaptation, geographies), education and
activism.
In order for the event to take place we need a space for a series of
lectures in a good location. We would be looking to run the lectures on a
Saturday in June or early July. If you are able to help, have any questions
or are provisionally interested in giving a short talk (5-20mins) then
please do drop me an email.
Thank you for your time.
