Hi Everyone
I'm developing some new materials for a first year human geography course, the first third of which will (attempt) to introduce the discipline of geography and the core themes of space, society-space and people-environment relations.
The journal-based literature on the discipline of geography is all very critical and often quite philosophical, which is difficult for first years to grasp - especially since many of our students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and do not have English as their first language.
I'm going to begin with Paul Cloke et al's 1999, Introducing Human Geographies' first chapter as well as using their table of contents to begin discussion on the varieties of human geography. Does anyone know of any quite recent articles which are discursive regarding the nature of geography and/or its relevance but which are simple enough for a first year to read and then discuss in a small group, tutorial format?
I'd appreciate any suggestions!
