PhD Studentships
Department of Probability and Statistics
University of Sheffield
Applications are invited for PhD studentships funded by the Faculty of
Science at the University of Sheffield, to start in September 2009 (or
other dates by arrangement). Awards are open to UK, EU and international
applicants. Applications are welcome in any area of Probability or
Statistics in which the department has expertise; see
http://www.shef.ac.uk/pas/research. In support of the recent appointment
to this department of Dr. Kevin Walters, for one studentship priority
may be given to a project in inference for stem cell population
histories, stochastic cancer modelling, or classification techniques
with missing data - particularly genetic data.
The Studentships will provide tuition fees at the UK/EU rate, a
maintenance grant of £13,290 per annum, and a Research Training Support
Grant; some studentships with a partial maintenance grant of £6,6450 may
also be awarded. Overseas students will also be eligible for
consideration for Fee Scholarships that pay the difference between the
UK/EU tuition fee and the international students tuition fee.
Applicants should submit a formal application for a PhD place online via
http://www.shef.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/apply/pgrform.html, and
should also complete a studentship application form available at
http://www.shef.ac.uk/pgresearch/studentships/uos.html.
Application for University studentships should be made by February 27th;
applicants will also be considered for any other sources of funding
for which they are eligible.
Informal enquiries may be made to the PhD Admissions Tutor, Professor
