Research Associate Statistician, Cardiff University
CISHE – Cardiff Institute of Society Health and Ethics
DECIPHer – UKCRC Public Health Research Centre of excellence
We wish to appoint an early career researcher with strong statistical skills to provide statistics
and project management input to the Free School Breakfast Initiative Data Augmentation and Analysis
Project (FSBIDAA), funded by the National Prevention Research Initiative. The post is fixed term to
March 2011, and is offered at Grade 6 (£29704 - £35469 per annum). The successful candidate will
join a growing team of multidisciplinary researchers building a strong programme of research
focussing on the development and evaluation of complex interventions for public health improvement.
There are excellent prospects for a long term career in CISHE and DECIPHer, where strong statistical
skills are always in strong demand. The postholder will be encouraged to develop their own
substantive or methodological research interests and career development and training will be
strongly supported.
Ideally, applicants should have experience of regression and logistic regression modelling, SPSS and
Stata software, and have a Masters or PhD in a related discipline. Good communication and project
management skills will also be important in this role. The FSBIDAA project involves further analysis
of a large scale cluster randomised trial of 111 primary schools in Wales to further assess the
impact of the scheme on health inequalities, diet and educational outcomes, as well as further
analysis of the relationships between these variables and other individual and school level
variables. Details of the original trial are at:
