I realise I should perhaps clarify the reference I supplied. The picture in
the article is a reconstruction of a pair of full-size working stows, which
shows the design you were after. However, I presume your use of the term
"possession" stows referred to the practice of marking out a vein with
symbolic stows - small models mounted on stakes. I don't know how big these
were, I'm afraid.
I was interested in your comment about using 7 pieces of wood - presumably
two for the feet, two for the uprights, two for cross pieces top and bottom
(differing slightly from the photo) and one for the winding mechanism?
There were, as shown in the photo, 4 diagonal braces at the feet, but these
were often made of iron rather than wood.
