*Kinsey 60 years on: discourses on sex, children
and paedophiles.*

***Abstract*
Paedophilia has been firmly within medical purview since Baron Richard von Krafft-Ebing first coined the term 'paedophilia erotica' in his Psychopathia Sexualis in 1886. However, we sociologists seem to remain a little shy of it, as of sex in general: as Ken Plummer recently commented, sexuality is still largely isolated from the sociological mainstream. My work, avoiding the usual psychiatric or criminological stance on paedophilia, brings together aspects of sociology and cultural studies to interrogate our understandings of human sexuality, including adult sexual attraction to children. Examining the Kinsey Report on Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, 60 years after its first publication, and presenting data from the Minor-Attracted Adults Daily Lives Project, conducted in 2007, on fantasy and romance, this talk will bring a fresh and also pragmatic perspective to our thinking on this topical problem.
