Leverhulme Trust
Fellowships
2009 EARLY CAREER FELLOWSHIPS
The Leverhulme Trust is offering approximately 70 Fellowships, in all
subject areas, to commence between the beginning of the 2009/10
academic year and 1 May 2010. Fellowships are either tenable for two
or three years, and candidates requesting a three-year award must
provide explicit justification for this in their application.
Early Career Fellowships provide career development opportunities for
those at an early stage of their academic careers and are to enable
candidates to undertake a significant piece of publishable research.
Applicants should be aged under 35 and must hold a doctorate or have
equivalent research experience by the time of starting the Fellowship.
Applicants aged 35 and over may apply if they began their academic
studies at a later age than usual or have had a career change/break.
Applicants must normally hold a degree from a UK higher education
institution, and those registered for a doctorate may apply only if
they have submitted their doctoral thesis by the closing date.
The scheme operates on a pattern of joint support whereby The
Leverhulme Trust contributes 50% of the Fellow's total salary costs up
to an annual limit of £23,000, and the host institution matches this.
It is a condition that the host department has identified and secured
the source of the matching funding for an applicant by the closing
date. Research expenses of up to £6000 a year are also available from
the Trust.
Application materials are available from leverhulme.ac.uk. Please note
that applications can only be made on the Trust's on-line application
system and these can only be submitted via the applicant's host
institution. Closing date: 4pm on 12 March 2009.
Registered charity number 288371.
