Interesting points made about 'friendlier' and 'normal' spaces, Jon.
Our take on the difference is that our main web site is approved, vetted, and
hosted by our parent local authority. As such it is a more formal and official
communication channel. With Facebook we can be more informal and
conversational.
We see it as being the difference to speaking to the public as a representative
of the museum and council, and having a relaxed chat with an individual and
any passers by who want to join in.
Whether we will merge the approaches into one entity over time will be both
interesting to see and do.
Noting what you say about CMS driven systems we did consider using the
Wordpress system. We decided not to for two reasons. One was the time it
would take to create and administer compared to Facebook, and the other
was it could be seen as building an alternative web site to our existing council
provided one.
