It nay be I thought their was general thread on home detox prior to admission to a TC and that the lack of such was hampering admissions

Apologies.  It was me I think that used SR as shorthand for senior residents. CPNs are community psychiatric nurses.  To be honest I still don't understand Stewart's contribution.  We were talking I thought, about detoxing TC residents in-house. I remarked that it was unfortunate that TCs should have to consider doing this themselves (although there may actually be benefits as Karen remarked) because the health services were not offering an adequate service.  I don't quite see how that led to CPNs holding stocks of methadone for people who are detoxing at home??

I'm glad you see their point because I don't!!!!

I don't see where home visits comes into it.  surely if someone was undertaking a detox as a resident of a TC their methadone would be collected from the pharmacy in the normal way (except, presumably, the individual would be accompanied by SR or staff) and then stored under secure conditions within the TC and administrated by staff.  Where do home visits come in?

hi I've followed the discussion with interest as we have problems with
waiting times to access programmes and detox . I raised the issue with
health colleges who simplified the issues by saying it would man community
staff carrying drugs on their person while making home visits and if it was
5 or 6 a day they would be potential targets. I can see their point but I
don't think its the whole picture and agree with the view of the politics
of service ownership
