By using that expression, you threshold the input image (i1) to only
retain values that exceed a value of 100 (note that this will result in
a binary image: if you want to retain the original values, something
like 'i1 .* (i1>100)' may work). If this makes sense in your image I
cannot tell you, but the principle can be generalized. If you call up
the image in question in SPM, you can check the voxel values that are in
the image by clicking on the voxel of interest. Also, a histogram may
help, such as in

title(['Histogram for ' (a)], 'interpreter', 'none');
This gives you the intensity distribution in the image, which,
incidentally, may also be helpful for creating gray matter masks (sorry,
